Certificate in Nail Technologies incorporating NZ Certificate in Nail Technology Level 4 - 120 Credits

Strategic purpose statement:

This qualification is designed to provide the beauty sector with nail technicians who have the skills and knowledge to competently provide a range of nail services. This qualification is intended for learners who wish to attain a recognised level of competence and professional standards in nail technology. Graduates will be capable of working under broad guidance with a degree of self-management in a nail technology context.

On completion graduates will be able to:

  • Implement professional standards and expectations relating to a nail technology workplace including associated health, safety and hygiene obligations
  • Consult with clients to perform an in-depth needs analysis for nail services and product needs in order to develop a nail service plan
  • Apply knowledge of natural nail services, products, tools, and related skills, to meet client’s needs in accordance with industry standards and current & emerging trends
  • Apply knowledge of nail augmentation and nail art services, products, and tools, and related skills, to meet client’s needs in accordance with industry standards and current and emerging trends
  • Apply knowledge of additional nail and nail art services, products, tools, and related skills, to meet client’s needs in accordance with industry standards and current & emerging trends.
  • Apply knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the nail, hand and foot to ensure client comfort and safety is maintained
  • Apply knowledge of nail and nail-related diseases and disorders to identify symptoms and advise clients of possible implications in terms of proposed nail services.
  • Provide reception and client sales services and carry out associated transactions and administration
  • Apply knowledge of small business practice relevant to nail services within the beauty sector.

Attendance 

Term One (20 weeks):

  • 3 days per week 9-4 pm face to face = 21 hours per week = 420 hours
  • 9 Hours home study per week = 180 hours
  • Total Term One 600 hours

Term Two (20 weeks / 5 months):

  • 2 days per month 9-4pm = 70 hours
  • 16 hours revision per month= 80 hours
  • 8 hours business assignment per month = 40 hours
  • 80 hours case studies and portfolio evidence building to include an average of 20 treatments per month, writing up case studies and evaluation and including photographic evidence = 400 hours
  • Total Term Two 590 hours

NT1 Provide Natural Nail Services 29 credits*

NT2 Provide Nail Augmentation Services 58 Credits 

NT3 Provide Nail Art Services 13 Credits

NT4 Small Business Operation 20 Credits*

* RPL opportunities for graduates of the Beauty Therapy Certificate programme and some for the Massage and Spa Programmes
